Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

We are honored and humbled at the amount of interest the local community has shown towards our cat café. The enthusiasm has been overwhelming, and we appreciate every bit of it. Here are a few questions that we’ve been asked a lot lately. We’ve gathered the answers together to hopefully clarify a few things!

Q: When will you be open?

A: We are opening on Thursday, January 9, 2025!

Q: What is a Cat Café?

A: For humans, it’s an environment where people can build a relationship with cats while enjoying a snack and a coffee from Grindhrs. For cats, it’s a shelter where they can roam and play freely with human friends while waiting to find their fur-ever home. They are funded by small entrance and adoption fees, along with support from amazing cat lovers like yourselves!

Q: How many people can I bring with me on my reservation?
A: Each reservation includes admission for one person. If you'd like to bring additional guests, they will need to have their own reservations.

Q: Do you have to be a member to visit?

A: No. You don’t need a membership to visit RubyCats. While memberships offer great perks like free visits and discounts, anyone can book a time to come hang out with the cats.

Q: How can I update or change my booking?
A: You can manage and make changes to your reservation by visiting the My Bookings page in your account. Changes are allowed up to two hours before your scheduled time.

Q: Are you accepting cats?

A: No. Each cat that we take in will need to meet several different criteria (involving health, compatibility, socialization, etc.), and therefore we are unable to accept any animals directly at this time.

Q: What are the age requirements for a visit to RubyCats?
A: Children as young as 6 years old may visit RubyCats with a parent or guardian present. One adult is requested for every two children under 14. Teenagers aged 14 to 17 can visit without a parent or guardian present, provided they have parental consent.

Q: What are the age requirements for memberships?
A: Memberships must be purchased by individuals aged 18 or older. Parents or guardians may purchase memberships on behalf of children aged 6 years or older.

Q: Are you hiring?

A: RubyCats is a nonprofit organization and is staffed entirely by volunteers.

Q: How can I volunteer?

A: Join our mailing list (sign-up below) and join us on our socials and be the first to know as soon as we’re ready! We know you’re as excited as we are!

Q: Will RubyCats be open during extreme weather events or emergencies in Lucas County?

A: In the event of extreme weather conditions, such as a Level 3 emergency or other severe storms or events in Lucas County, RubyCats will be closed to visitors for the safety of our community and volunteers. If you have a reservation for the affected time or day, we will be happy to rebook your visit at no charge or provide a refund. Please check our website and social media for updates on closures or changes in our hours of operation.
